We’ve officially stepped into June (whoah!) but just because the calendar says it’s summer, doesn’t mean we have to let go of that light, playful, full of possibility feeling that Spring brings. Actually, I think now’s kind of the perfect time to soak it all in. Let that feeling spill into our interiors as we slide into the sunnier months.
So what even is a "Spring" personality when we’re talking interiors? It’s not just about colour (though that definitely plays a part). It’s more of a feeling. A sense of joy, curiosity, freshness. That buzz of new energy, like something exciting is just around the corner. If you’re drawn to fresh, colourful spaces with a joyful energy, spring personality interior design could be your perfect match.
I recently answered some questions about this very thing, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on how I approach capturing Spring energy in interior design.

Who comes to mind when I think of a client with a Spring energy?
Kat and Mo, straight away. Their home bar project (can’t wait to share photos soon) was full of creativity and fun. The palette wasn’t traditionally Spring, but their personalities absolutely were. They were excited, open to bold ideas, and totally in sync with the playful spirit that defines Spring. We created a bespoke, fluted, two-tier bar together for their space designed for hosting and joy. That's the kind of energy I always look to bring into my work.
Have I ever designed a space that felt especially Spring like?
My bedroom. It’s basically a celebration of colour. The starting point was this incredible wallpaper with a light background and tones of blue, green, pink, lilac, peach, and yellow. From there, it bloomed into peach walls (Persipan by Coat, an eco-friendly favourite), a lilac-striped ceiling, and a joyful mix of upcycled furniture in all sorts of shades. It’s a space that makes me smile every morning. I’m lucky my partner Paul, loves it too.

What makes a space feel Spring-like beyond just colour?
It’s about how a space makes you feel. A Spring interior brings energy and optimism. It’s like walking into a room that nudges you forward, makes you feel ready for the day. I often use blue and green as a base and then add in pops of yellow, lilac, and pink. They're colours that echo the first flowers of the season like daffodils, bluebells, tulips, and crocuses.
Do I have any go-to styling tricks for a fresh feel?
Fresh flowers are an absolute must. I use Freddie’s Flowers for regular deliveries and they always lift my mood! Cushions are great too, but if the cushions feel a bit tired, it might be time to look at the sofa. A bold, colourful sofa can completely change the energy of a room. And don’t underestimate a rug. A beautiful rug is like art for the floor. I often look at Habitat, Ruggable, or Jane Clayton depending on the project.
How do I keep pastel tones from feeling too sugary?
I go for what I call bold pastels. They still have that lightness, but with depth and warmth. They’re practical too as they are less likely to show scuffs or wear.
Are there Spring palettes I come back to again and again?
Pink, green, and blue is one. Pink, green, and yellow is another. The green and blue ground the palette, and the pink or yellow brings the joy. I love experimenting with different paint suppliers too. Each one has its own vibe and mixing them gives you something unique.
What would I say to someone who's scared of using colour?
Treat it like shopping for clothes. Try it out. Paint a swatch. Live with it. If it makes you feel calm or energised or just plain happy, that’s a good sign. And if not? Paint over it. It’s really that simple.
Are there any design "rules" I love breaking?
The 60/30/10 rule for colour balance is useful, but I’m not afraid to break it, especially when it comes to Spring palettes. Spring is made for maximalism. Think of a wildflower meadow. It’s beautifully chaotic and it works because the tones complement each other, even when there’s a lot going on.
Why do Spring personality interior designs just feel different?
They just lift you. I’m a fast-paced person and these spaces give me energy while also softening the edges. They meet me where I am and still give me a sense of calm.
Where do I love using Spring colours most?
All over the home, but especially in the bedroom and lounge. These are the spaces we begin and end our day in. So it makes sense to make them feel joyful.

What textures or materials work well with Spring palettes?
Velvet is my favourite especially in vibrant shades. I also love adding patterned cushions, playful blinds, and wallpaper that adds personality and fun.
Any small swaps to bring in Spring energy without redecorating?
Yes! A bold rug. Colourful candlesticks. A scalloped tray or a few bright books on the coffee table. It’s often the small touches that bring a space to life.
What’s one simple thing someone could do today to make their home more joyful?
Look in your wardrobe. What colours are you drawn to again and again? That favourite summer dress or shirt probably says a lot about your style. Use those tones around your home. Or think about your favourite holiday destination. What textures and colours come to mind? That’s your palette inspiration right there.
Designing with a Spring personality is NOT about getting it perfect. It’s about feeling good. It’s about joy, energy, and warmth. Whether you’re painting a bold pastel feature wall or simply placing a bunch of tulips in the hallway, the goal is always the same. Choose what lifts you up!!
Because at the end of the day, that’s what great interior design should do.
